Franchise

Immigration law is complex and each case needs to be assessed on a case by case basis. The below is solely an overview of the process.

  • Our team helps you navigate the below process, step by step:

    • Narrow down your business preferences

    • Research best franchises

    • Select the franchise that interests you the most and start liaising with the franchisor

    • Obtain the franchise disclosure package

    • Perform due diligence to check the franchise background/business state

    • Deposit

    • Apply for work permit

    • Come to Canada

    • Close the deal with the franchisor once your work permit is approved (pay the remaining deposit, sign the franchise agreement, sign the lease agreement)

    • Incorporate

    • Have a few weeks of training with the franchisor’s team or existing owner

    • Operate your business for 1 year

    • After 6 to 12 months of active operations, apply for permanent residence

  • It is inevitably easier to start a business that already has a name for itself, existing operational guidelines, proven sales techniques, marketing tools, list of trusted suppliers/distributors/partners, and everything else needed to generate profit fast.

    • Proven Business Model: the business has already been established by the franchisor which reduces the risks associated with starting a business from scratch and increases your chances of success. Franchises typically offer comprehensive training, operational support, and marketing assistance to help you hit the ground running.

    • Brand Recognition: Joining a reputable franchise affords you instant brand recognition and credibility in the market. It significantly accelerates your business growth and customer acquisition efforts. Customers are more likely to trust a familiar brand.

    • Marketing Support: Franchisors often provide robust marketing support, which helps you attract and retain customers, drive sales, and build brand awareness in your target market. Additionally, being part of a larger network of franchisees enables you to benefit from collective marketing efforts and shared resources.

    • Operational Guidance: Franchisors offer comprehensive operational guidance and ongoing support to help you navigate business challenges effectively. From standardized processes to access to industry-leading tools and technologies, you have the necessary resources to streamline operations, deliver exceptional service and generate revenue.

    • Savings: As part of a franchise group, most purchases if not all, are bought in bulk which decreases sales price allowing you to save money as opposed to being an independent business purchasing solely for your business.  By pooling resources with other franchisees within the network, you can negotiate favorable deals with suppliers, optimize inventory management, and maximize profitability.

    • Community of Support: Joining a franchise means becoming part of a supportive community of like-minded entrepreneurs who share insights, experiences, and resources, fostering personal and professional growth as you navigate your entrepreneurial journey.

  • You must investigate who the franchisor is. We help you review the Franchise Disclosure Package and undertake our own research as well. We closely look at the franchisor’s:

    • reputation

    • number of locations worldwide and where those stores are located

    • if there is any ongoing litigation

    • its cash flow, income statement, revenue projections

    • market research analysis provided by the franchisor

    • number of employees needed per location

    • expansion plan: ability to grow

    • number of recently closed locations

    • what support is the franchisor providing

  • Approximately 2.5 years:

    • 1 year on a work permit operating the business +

    • 1.5 years for your permanent residency to be processed

    • Assess your eligibility to immigrate to Canada including your ability to become a business immigrant.

    • Select the best immigration program for you.

    • Ensure the franchise you select aligns with immigration requirements.

    • Review the franchisor’s documents, including the financials, and provide you with an opinion.

    • Draft the franchisor’s letter(s) of support.

    • Draft the business plan or review and work with the franchisor to strengthen the business plan.

    • Prepare a detailed agenda for you to visit the province and city where you wish to settle. Such visit is virtual or in person depending on the program.

    • Handle all immigration processes.

    • When available, we connect you with our network of professionals such as accountants, lawyers, real estate agents, transborder tax advisors, etc. to ease your personal and professional integration in Canada.
